Quick intro to Linkedin’s Social Selling Index

What is SSI?

If you haven't see it yet, you will soon.
Released earlier this year from the good people at Linkedin, the Social Selling Index gives some indication of something.
Yes, I know.

But people are talking about it.

And of course, it will be compared to Klout.
But it isn't about 'how you can move content through Social' (h/t Mark Schaeffer), and seeing as it is 'Linkedin', it wouldn't take much for it to make an appearance on your profile (crikey!).

Ok, I may as well dive in a little more:
There are four categories:

1. Establish your professional brand

2. Find the right people

3. Engage with insights

4. Build relationships

Each one has a sliding scale from zero to twenty five.

Here is mine:

I'm really not sure of the value yet, but there are a few things you may find of value...

I believe mine is 'high' due to 2 main factors, displayed in the first and last categories.

And you can easily model the approach I took for this to, accidentally, happen: using their blogging platform, and engaging.
Including:

  • Getting featured on 'Pulse' for 3 out of 4 of my past articles (which is largely thanks to my Linkedin mentor Greg Cooper)
  • Engaging with people within the platform, saying thank you for shares, replying to comments etc.

As such, I would suggest that more than network numbers (I have a couple of thousand of connections) it is use use of their publishing platform that pushing to the brand figures, and engaging that increased the 'build relationships' factors.

So here is the main tip for you:

Take your blog content and repurpose/republish it on Linkedin, if you don't already.
And then go and engage with people who 'like'/comment/share.

Simple, step by step ways to build relationships, one conversation at a time.
Give it a go. And get writing on there too, it will certainly build your brand.

p.s. it even says that if you want a higher score you should sign up for their premium Sales Navigator' service - a lovely bit of gamification built into their sales process too.
