I've been exploring Android TV from a marketers perspective now for a couple of months and I wanted to give PYB's most dedicated readers some early tips as you'll need to get these action ASAP.
The issue:
I've mentioned before how Android TV is going to change our viewing behaviour in the home.
The main issue is that there are:
- No annotations to click
- No links in the description area
In other words, people can't use the usual methods to drive the next step.
Potential Solutions:
Imagine people reaching the end of a video, watched on TV.
What would you need to add to your videos to help them engage with your further?
Here are a few ideas:
Start considering what content 'could' appear on Android TV - not all content will be searched for, entertainment will still rule
Then consider the following - have a toll free number, or a 'text to opt in' option (i.e. shortcodes), or have your website address and a call to action on screen.
How about relating to people who are watching it on TV, and say "And if you are watching this on your TV, then...(take action)"
Whatever you do, know that all the content you are amplifying into Search is going to surface in a new way on TV, and you are going to want to be ready now - i.e. change your calls to action, or at least have additional ones as suggested above.
