Over 28.4 million tweets were sent from around the world during Super Bowl XLIX, making it the most-tweeted Super Bowl in Twitter’s history.
Last year 24.9 million tweets were sent during the game, which was the previous record. This year’s spectacle beat that total by almost four million.
The Super Bowl halftime show, which including Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz, generated three million tweets all by itself.
The three biggest events of the night were:
1. Malcolm Butler intercepts a pass by Russell Wilson one yard from the goal line with 20 seconds left in the game (395,000 tweets per minute)
2. The Patriots defeat the Seahawks to become champions (379,000 tweets per minute)
3. The end of Katy Perry’s halftime performance (284,000 tweets per minute)
Tom Brady was the most tweeted-about Patriot, and Marshawn Lynch was the most-mentioned Seahawk.
