Twitter Launches ‘While You Were Away’ Recap

Twitter’s new \"While you were away\" feature is rolling out now to all users of its Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for iPad apps, and will appear on Android devices and Twitter.com soon.

\"While you were away\" gives users a recap of some of the top or most popular tweets from accounts that they follow that they might have missed while they were away from Twitter.

Product manager Paul Rosania writes about what you can expect on the Twitter blog.

If you check in on Twitter now and then for a quick snapshot of what’s happening, you’ll see this recap more often; if you spend a lot of time on Twitter already, you’ll see it less.

Our goal is to help you keep up – or catch up – with your world, no matter how much time you spend on Twitter. With a few improvements to the home timeline we think we can do a better job of delivering on that promise without compromising the real time nature of Twitter.

Twitter CFO Anthony Noto had this to say about the value of \"While you were away\" back in November.

There are time periods when something incredibly relevant to you as a user could have occurred hours ago before you open up the Twitter app.

During the testing phase the reaction to \"While you were away\" was decidedly mixed. Now that the feature is launching to a significant number of users it will be interesting to see if that sentiment is maintained.
