Twitter is growing at a furious pace in India, with the platform expanding at a record, double-digit pace year-on-year, which is expected to continue through 2018.
eMarketer reports that 22.2 million people will use Twitter in India in 2015, up 30.4 percent on last year, when the platform grew 47.6 percent on 2012.
This double-digit growth will continue next year, when Twitter should add 27.8 percent more users, reaching 28.4 million people, climbing to 39.5 million by 2018.
Impressive as these numbers are, India’s low internet penetration rate means just 1.8 percent of the total population are currently using Twitter. Hence, as access to the internet (especially mobile internet) in India grows, so should Twitter.
Bottom line: there’s plenty of upside here. And Twitter is betting big.
\"India is a big market for us,\" said Katie Stanton, Twitter’s vice president of global media, about the company’s interest in India back in November. \"It is one of our fastest growing markets and we will be investing more here.\"
