DAU-UP: Android Games Nearly as Profitable as iOS

iOS Android LTV DAU-UP

DAU-UP, a gamer-acquisition solution for mobile and social game developers, released new data showing that Android games are now nearly as profitable as iOS games. Specifically, the average revenue per user for Android games is now almost equal to the ARPU for iOS games, marking an overall increase in the lifetime value of Android users.

The ARPU for Android games increased from 25 percent of that of iOS games in the first quarter of 2014 to nearly 65 percent now. When factoring in the cost of acquiring players, which is lower on Android devices, the overall ROI for Android is now equal to or sometimes greater than iOS.

DAU-UP attributes this increase to a variety of factors, including improvements in Android hardware, which have prompted more mid-core and hard-core players to switch to the platform to take advantage of these more powerful devices. This is on top of overall improvements to the user interface and system stability of the Android operating system. In addition, Android is growing quickly in emerging Latin American and Asia-Pacific markets.

In a statement, Idan Nizri, CEO and founder of DAU-UP, commented on the data:

After years of being the unwanted stepchild, Android is having its Cinderella moment, as game developers are increasing their Android development resources to meet the growth in Android revenue. We’re hearing more and more developers developing games “Android-first.” I have no doubt that game developers will invest more time, effort and resources in Android in 2015.

DAU-UP is used by developers including Playtika, Social Point and Plarium. More information on its platform is available here.
